Police are seeking leads on a hit-and- run incident in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve that killed a 47-year- old Anaheim woman. The victim, Eugenia Pelagio, left a party around 1:55 a.m. in the Westlake District of Los Angeles and proceeded to cross Second and Emerald streets, according to police. That’s when Pelagio was struck by a vehicle, which witnesses said was a gray SUV. It’s possible the vehicle was a Ford Explorer or Expedition, police said. The culprit fled the scene. “They didn’t slow down and help,” said Sandra Dzul, one of Pelagio’s four daughters. “They just left her.” Authorities said several witnesses from the party have come forward but as of Monday there were no leads in the case. Tipsters can call Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division at (213) 833-3713, the department’s 24 hour hotline (877) LAPD-24- 7 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to anyone with information leading to the identification, arrest and prosecution of the driver involved in the incident. The money comes from Los Angeles’ new Hit and Run Reward Trust Fund. The victim’s family is accepting donations on GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs.
