A traffic collision that sent one driver to the hospital with serious injuries and knocked down a power pole

HUNTINGTON BEACH – A traffic collision that sent one driver to the hospital with serious injuries and knocked down a power pole closed Edinger Avenue and Springdale Street in all directions Wednesday morning (February 15,2017,) authorities said. About 3:30 a.m., a driver of a Black Chrysler 200 traveling southbound on Springdale Street struck a gold Ford Range as it traveled eastbound on Edinger Avenue, police Sgt. Jennifer Marlat said.
The vehicles continued south and the Chrysler hit a power pole, knocking it over.
The Ranger’s driver, an 18-year-old woman, was ejected, Marlatt said. She was taken to an area hospital with major injuries and was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning. Her male passenger was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Chrysler, Darius Roberts, 27, of Huntington Beach was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, and officers said at 8:30 a.m. that the intersection would remain closed for several more hours.
“If you are going to Marina High School or dropping someone off there, you can enter by driving south on Springdale and entering off Marina Viking Way,” Marlatt said.
