All lanes on the southbound I-405 freeway were closed at the 133 after a pedestrian wandered into traffic, was struck by a box truck and died

IRVINE – All lanes on the southbound I-405 freeway were closed at the 133 after a pedestrian wandered into traffic, was struck by a box truck and died around 6 a.m. Thursday (February 16, 2017,) according to the California Highway Patrol.  Southbound traffic was being diverted onto the 133 bypass as of 6:30 a.m.
911 callers told CHP dispatchers that a woman wearing a blue shirt was walking northbound along the southbound right shoulder, close to lanes, around 6:11 a.m., CHP officer Monica Posada said.  Moments later, callers reported that the person walked into lanes and had been hit. “It was foggy,” CHP officer Tino Olivera said. “When she got to the No. 3 lane, she was hit by a white box truck.”
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A SigAlert was issued for the southbound I-405 at 6:17 a.m. and was expected to remain until about 8:30 a.m. while the coroner works and officers conduct their investigation.
The box truck driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. “He’s shaken up, but all right,” Olivera said.
No citations have been issued or arrests made.
It was unclear what the person was doing on the freeway, Posada said. No disabled vehicles were seen in the immediate area.
