BREA – A woman who police say apparently ran a red light at Imperial Highway and struck another vehicle was ejected from her car and died at the scene early Sunday (March 6,2017.)

The collision happened at about 2:50 a.m., when a woman driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla southbound on South Kraemer Boulevard appeared to have driven through a red signal at Imperial Highway and struck a 2006 Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on Imperial, according to Brea Police officers who investigated the crash. It seemed that the woman was not wearing a seatbelt, Brea Police Department Lt. Darrin Devereux said.
The man driving the Ford and two passengers – a man and a woman – sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. None of the injuries appear to have been life-threatening. No names have been released.
The fatal collision is “a strong reminder to people to wear their safety belts every time they drive,” Devereux said.  He cited Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics indicating that drivers not wearing seatbelts are 30 times more likely to be ejected than those who buckle up, and that wearing seatbelts reduces the risk of death by 45 percent.
