A pedestrian died Monday night after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in Santa Ana, police said. Officers were called to the scene in the 3200 block of Edinger Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. said Cmdr. Jeffrey Smith of the Santa Ana Police Department. The pedestrian was crossing the westbound lanes of Edinger Avenue when a Ford sedan hit him. The driver stayed at the scene until officers arrived and paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene, Smith said. Investigators do not believe the driver, who was licensed, was influenced by drugs or alcohol during the crash. It is still unknown if the victim, whose name has not yet been released, was impaired.
